After a discussion on FB today regarding segmenting words into their individual phonemes, I’m posting the sheets I made a year or so ago to use with my tutoring kids. Get the child to TAP out the sounds they hear in the word. Next “Map it” by writing each individual phoneme in a separate square. The “zap it” back together again by writing the whole word in the last box. Get the child to SAY the sounds as they write them, to increase the the ‘sound/symbol/ relationship.
This sheet is for words with up to 7 phonemes. See the alternative sheet for words with less than 5 phonemes (i.e. more space to write the sounds!) in the “Teacher made games and manipulatives” group! 🙂
